2 A: What were the results of your service project?
A. The results of my service project were that the church grounds were clean. The weeds were pulled, the trash was picked up, the leaves were raked, and the sidewalks were swept. The church looked nice for everyone that visited. The results of the bake sale were that we were able to raise enough money to help send some people on a mission trip to the Appalachian Mountains. 2 B: Did you accomplish your goal? How do you know? A. Yes, I believe that I accomplished my goal because I completed everything that I wanted to do. I was able to spend a Saturday at the church where I interviewed the Pastor and completed the work he wanted me to do. I also spent another Saturday baking two pumpkin spice loaves for the bake sale. The next day, we had the bake sale and it was successful because the sale raised money to help send people on a mission trip. 2 C: Do you think accomplishing your goal is the only way that a project can be considered successful? A. I believe that accomplishing my goal is the only way that my service projects could be considered successful. I think this because if you finish it, it is another service project completed which helps transform our communities. 2 D: How would you describe the impact your project has had on your community? A. My church service project impacted a lot of people. The Pastor of the church was proud of me for doing something for others. The people who stopped by the church while I was working were impressed to see a young kid spending his Saturday doing yardwork at the church. My mom was really proud of me for working hard and accomplishing what I set out to do. Overall, I would say that my service projects have had a very positive impact on my community. 2 E: What feedback did you get from the people you served? How did they feel about the results of your project? A. All of the feedback that I received from everyone was positive. The church's Pastor said I made his day. He was very happy and thankful that I volunteered my time to help clean up the landscaping of the church. When I was finished, Pastor Dean said he could not thank me enough and told me I did a great job. He said everything looked beautiful. The women in charge of the bake sale were very thankful that I helped out. They shook my hand and hugged me. They liked my pumpkin spice bread so much, that it was sold before the sale even started! REFLECTION ESSAY I performed two service projects in my community. For my first service project, I helped out with the landscaping at a local church. I pulled weeds, raked leaves, picked up trash on the church grounds, and swept the sidewalks. For my second community project, I participated in a bake sale to help raise money to send people on a mission trip to the Appalachian Mountains. On Saturday, February 11 ,2017, I completed my first service project. My workday started at 8:30 a.m. I began by asking Pastor Dean Murphy a few questions about the service project that I was going to do. After interviewing him, I got my tools, put on my gloves, and got straight to work. First, I started raking old, dead leaves underneath the bushes and trees. After I completed that, I started pulling weeds and raking the soil to even it out. Then, I picked up any trash I saw as well as sweeping all of the sidewalks. A rewarding moment for me, was when I finished and I saw how nice everything looked. Another rewarding moment, was when Pastor Dean came up to me and told me what a great job I did and how beautiful everything looked. He also kept thanking me and told me how much he appreciated everything I did. Him saying that, made me feel really good. For my second service project, I participated in a local bake sale in my community by baking goods. On Saturday, February 18, 2017, I spent the day baking pumpkin spice loaves for the bake sale that was going to take place the next day. On Sunday, February 19, 2017, my mom drove me down to the bake sale at 9:00 a.m., so that I could sell the loaves. I felt excited because the loaves were sold before the sale even started. Something I discovered by doing this service project, was that baking wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. A rewarding moment for me, was when I found out that we had raised enough money to help send people to the Appalachian Mountains. There, they would teach the Word of God and hand out Bibles to the people. They would also help out in the community in any way they could. This was my favorite service project. To be honest, I wasn't sure that I wanted to do this project. I knew it would be a lot of work and I would have to spend my Saturdays doing it. After I finished the projects, I realized that I am really glad that I did them. It made me feel really good to know that I am helping others and hopefully I can inspire other kids to help out in their community.
